Accessibility

How this website is built for accessibility, what has been tested, and how to tell us about a barrier.

Our commitment

Alpha Northline Global Inc. wants this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, need larger text, or prefer reduced motion.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA, which is the standard referenced by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

What has been built in

  • Semantic HTML with one main heading per page and headings in order.
  • A skip link to the main content as the first item in the tab order.
  • Every interactive element reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • Interactive targets outside running text sized at least 44 by 44 pixels, and never below the 24 by 24 pixel minimum the guidelines set. Links inside a sentence keep the size of the text they sit in, which the guidelines allow.
  • Text colour combinations checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratios of 4.5 to 1 for body text and 3 to 1 for large text and interface elements.
  • Text descriptions on every meaningful image, and decorative graphics hidden from assistive technology.
  • Form fields with real labels, error messages announced to assistive technology, and required fields marked in text as well as visually.
  • The mobile menu built as a button with correct expanded and collapsed states.
  • Layout that reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling, down to a 320 pixel wide screen.
  • Animation kept minimal, and motion suppressed for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.
  • Page language declared, and page titles that describe the page.

What we have tested

The pages of this website have been checked by rendering them at desktop, tablet and mobile widths, by walking the keyboard tab order on every page, and by measuring the contrast ratio of every text and background colour pair in the stylesheet against the WCAG formula.
